At the end of summer 2024 Almazy Anabara, a company owned by ALROSA, mined a particularly large gem-quality diamond at the Ebelyakh diamond deposit of the Mayat mine in the Anabar district of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

The weight of the precious stone amounted to 262.5 carats. It is a transparent monocrystal with single inclusions of graphite-sulfide and weak jellying, which has a characteristic shape for minerals of the Ebelyakh deposit. The diamond was discovered by night shift workers of Almazy Anabara while washing diamondiferous sands. Currently, the crystal is being sent for expert evaluation of morphological characteristics.

This is already the second record-breaking diamond found in Russia in less than a year. On September 10, 2023, a crystal weighing 390.7 carats was mined at the same Ebelyakh deposit. It became the largest gem-quality diamond in Russia over the past 10 years.

«The Ebelyakh alluvial diamond deposit is famous for exceptionally rare colored and large diamonds that have gained worldwide fame. In 2017, the most expensive diamond in the history of Russia was mined here - a 27.85-carat clear pink crystal, from which the Rose Ghost diamond was later cut. Finding another record-breaking diamond at the same diamond deposit in less than one year is a rare phenomenon and undoubtedly a great success for the diamond mining industry of Russia,» - ALROSA CEO Pavel Marinychev said.
